Before making the move to real estate in 2015, Michael Benson worked as a sales manager with U.S. Bank Home Mortgage for nearly a decade. Due to this previous experience, he is well-versed in all aspects of financing a home - including appraisals, underwriting, processing and closing. Currently, Michael works in the Portland Northeast and the Vancouver office of John L. Scott, as he is licensed in both Washington and Oregon.

Working in real estate is a perfect match for Michael due to the social and collaborative nature of the job. He loves working with a variety of people, running a business with exceptional customer care and assisting clients in securing the home of their dreams. Communication is key to Michael - he is sure to listen carefully to clients' wants and needs and uses these to map out a plan of action. Proactive and timely updates are also important, along with quickly addressing any issues that may arise.

To effectively market homes and stay competitive in the industry, Michael likes to stay visible within his sphere and social network as much as possible. Understanding hyperlocal markets is also key to Michael. He often spends time touring homes, even when he's not with active clients to stay sharp on the market pulse. Michael has a soft spot in his heart for old American Craftsman style homes and bungalows, but also has grown to appreciate new construction since becoming a real estate agent.

A few years ago, Michael's wife talked him and his young daughter into moving out of the city and onto a small farm in La Center with about five acres. In the past few years, they have accumulated three goats, three sheep, five ducks, two chickens, one pig, two dogs and a cat! When Michael isn't spending time on his farm, you'll often find him and his family hiking, fishing, canoeing, swimming or scuba diving. Whenever they're able to, they also enjoy going on tropical vacations.

Portland

It’s true that Portland has a lot of nicknames: The Rose City. Stumptown. Beervana. River City. Bridgetown. PDX. I think it shows the affection Portlanders have for our city. Portland is in one of the most beautiful spots in the country. We enjoy tons of your round outdoor activities. The Cascade Mountains with their year-round skiing and snowboarding are an hour to the east and the Pacific Ocean is an hour to the west. Willamette Valley Wine Country, which is known for its world class pinot noirs, is a short drive away. But there are plenty of reasons to stay in the city too. Powell's City of Books is an entire city block of literary fare. Forest Park and Mount Tabor are both perfect for a hike or a picnic and you can’t beat the shopping and dining in the Pearl District or the art scene on Alberta and Mississippi Avenues. Our mild climate--with warm dry summers and cool wet winters--has given rise to the farm to table movement in local restaurants. Salmon, pork, and beef all come from local purveyors and they pair with locally grown produce and international flavors to make Portland a foodie's dream city. Portland has one of the lowest crime rates of a major American cities and the cost of living is low compared to other West Coast cities. Homes range from historic mansions in the West Hills and restored bungalows in inner Southeast to highrise condos in the Pearl and downtown and new construction and other up and coming neighborhoods. If you’d like to learn more about Portland let us know. We’d love to show you around and help you find your perfect home.

Reviews

“Michael took his time to make sure that nothing was left undone to list our house, all the way to installing a video camera to prevent repeated break-ins from homeless people. He was methodical on all the repairs, yard work, and upgrades that were required to get the maximum offers from other agents. He did a tremendous job with the staging and Open House. We had over 15 offers on the first weekend alone! I would recommend Michael for all residential transactions. He is the best!”

“We had nothing but a positive experience with Michael! We were moving due to relocating for my husband's job, so, our time to look for houses was extremely limited since it involved traveling. Michael not only worked with our limited time frame, but he often times accommodated really last minute requests. Many of these requests involved him spending his whole weekends with us going from house to house trying to find our perfect home. I am happy to say that we found a home beyond our wildest dreams! His constant communication with us never left us questioning how things were going or where we stood in the process. He set very clear expectations regarding the current housing market which I think ultimately helped us with our winning offer. I cannot say enough good things about Michael and you will NOT go wrong with choosing him as your realtor!”

“Michael is so wonderful to work with. He listened to what we said, and only showed us the properties that would appeal to us. I have say, we’ve had lots of realtors for various moves, NO ONE has treated us so well. I will recommend him with no reservations, I know he will really work with you.”
